Youth Hub is ALiVe!!

The spirit of youth activism came alive last Saturday, 18th August, when Kassim Mosque officially launched its Youth Hub. A concept that was spawned by the mosque management committee, it paved the way for the set-up of Youth@Kassim - the mosque’s youth wing, to start planning its approach to attract youths the mosque. Barely one year later, it was decided that the mosque needed a centre catered for youths. The youth centre will provide not only a place for discussions and meetings, but it will also be an enclave where they can unwind. Emboldened by its new motto “Bringing the mosque closer to YOUths”, the relatively new team of volunteers started their proposal to build the Youth Hub. Designed to be the nerve-centre of its future operations, the Youth Hub will be the headquarters, classroom and lounge for its members. Equip with new electronic gadgets, DVD players, X-Box and speedily hooked up the internet, the Youth Hub aims to attract youths from all backgrounds to make it into a cosy meeting point.

The Youth Hub became a reality last Saturday as it was unveiled in a visual splendour of lights, sounds and melodic singing of nasyid by students Madrasah Al-Junied. The Kassim Mosque Management Committee and Youth at Kassim exco, accompanied by the distinguished guest of honour and invited guests, were treated to a grand opening ceremony of the Youth Hub; consisting of pyrotechnics and an electronic plague signed by the guest of honour. The opening of the Youth Hub entails the mosque’s relentless effort in connecting with the youth. Recognised as an integral part of the Ummah, the youth are the future leaders of our society and the mosque aims to create a symbiotic relationship with the youth by nurturing close ties through events and participation. The mosque hopes to encourage the youth to have a greater sense of belonging to the Muslim community and to strengthen the bond of the young Ummah.
